Quarantine Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving looked a lot different this year. With Covid-19 on the rise again, my family and I decided it would be wise to spend our Thanksgiving separated. For the first time in a while I wasn’t spending the holiday with my extended family and friends. Although it was difficult at first, we made our own new traditions this year to honor the holiday.

First, we had a Zoom call with our family members who couldn’t be with us. Aunts, uncles, cousins and friends called in to wish us well and virtually give thanks. Because they weren’t with us physically, we decided not to make our usual amount of food. My parents, sister and I enjoyed dinner all together and talked with each other to make up for any vacancies we felt.

Following dinner, we decided to go straight ahead in preparing for the next great holiday this season: Christmas. We brought out the lights, planned where to put the tree, and put The Grinch on the TV. Although Christmas will probably look a lot different too, we’re looking forward to creating our own new traditions just like we did for Thanksgiving.
